We’ve all worn some things we are not proud of in the name of fashion, right? There are always those trends that seem so silly and odd to us, trends that we wonder why they caught on in the first place.
As silly as they seem, we sometimes accept those trends, and even buy into them; wearing things that we think are funny looking and trying styles that are a bit out of our comfort zone.
However, that is a good thing. Getting out of your comfort zone is a healthy part of being a human, but with some fashion trends, enough is enough. There’s such a thing as too far.
For those kinds of trends, we have just four words as we head into the New Year: goodbye and good riddance.
1. Crop Tops
We are all guilty of this one, but I just don’t get it. The only acceptable situation that comes to mind where a crop top is appropriate is if you are at some summer music festival, or at the beach, and have an amazing bling tattoo to show off. Other than that, crop tops are just an excuse to pay more money for less clothing for the sake of looking like Miley Cyrus.
2. Ugg Boots
This is one of those things that has conditions. If you are in junior high or younger or are wearing them in the cold, Ugg boots are okay. In the beginning, Ugg boots were invented to keep your feet warm when it became cold outside. However, now, Ugg boots are popping up everywhere. Ugg boots need to be stopped.
3. Bold Patterns
In the 1980’s, the era of leg warmers and off the shoulder shirts with bold and colorful patterns were fun things to wear to stand out. In 2014, it seems like bold patterns and bright colors are being wielded in a battle to see who can make the most obnoxious combinations. It is not called a statement outfit, people. It is a statement necklace, or statement shoes. Less is more.
4. High Waisted Shorts
Speaking as someone who never got into this trend because every time I have ever mentioned them my mother laughs and calls them “mom jeans,” this trend needs to go. I understand that there might be a place and time in which some people deem these acceptable, but it is not real. This trend is one that we’ll look back on in twenty years and regret unless we put an end to it now.
5. Sneaker Heels
It is sad that these are even a trend in the first place, let alone that an article needs to be written to get people to stop wearing them. Most commonly, brightly colored Nike brand gym shoes are used, and a six-inch heel is strapped onto them. They are unsightly pieces of footwear, most widely seen in hip-hop music videos, worn by women who will look back and wonder why.
6. Heart Shaped Sunglasses
Remember in the 90’s when babies wore these, and it was an adorable way for kids to play dress up? This is not the same. When kids do it to play dress up and be cute, it is one thing. However, when grown women are doing it, there’s a problem. There comes a point in your life when it is time to stop wearing little kids’ sunglasses and start wearing adult sunglasses. That time is now.
7. Two-Piece Dresses
The Kardashians have brought many things into this world that need to be taken out, and this is one of them. The thing that doesn’t make sense is that they are called dresses. If you want to buy these things online, you go to the dress tab. However, what they really are is a high waisted skirt and a crop top that match. What’s more, it does not even look like a dress because space is left on your midriff. This takes us back to the first item on this list: crop tops.
I am always on top of the best in fashion such as jewelry tattoos from online resources like Bling Tattoos.
