We all have long lists of the various tasks we’d like to accomplish over the course of a day. However, for many of us, these lists are rarely finished by the time we go to sleep. It’s not because we’re lazy or unmotivated, but rather because by the time we come home from work, we’re often too tired to attempt that cleaning project or hobby.
Contrary to what you might think, feeling tired all the time isn’t just an ordinary aspect of being a working person. Rather, it has to do with the lifestyle choices we make. If you want more energy to do the things you want to do, then follow these tips on how to feel less tired.
Eat Super Foods
If you feel exhausted by the time the afternoon hits and you had a fast food breakfast, then you probably already know deep down what the true cause of your fatigue is. It’s hard to feel energetic and vibrant when we have toxic food in our systems. Instead of starting your day with junk food, try starting it with a smoothie packed with whole plant foods. If you want an extra burst of energy, try adding acai powder, which helps to boost energy and alertness. If you can’t find acai powder at your grocery store, you can easily.
Go Easy On The Caffeine
A lot of us, especially those of us with high-pressure jobs, have become accustomed to chugging caffeinated drinks from the moment we wake up to the moment we leave work. While caffeine is relatively harmless health-wise, it unfortunately can cause us to become dependent on these beverages to feel alert. While you don’t have to completely cut out your morning cup of coffee, try to reduce the amount of coffee or cola that you drink throughout the day. Over time, you’ll naturally start to feel more alert without the coffee.
Improve Your Sleep Hygiene
When we feel tired during the day, it’s often because our sleep hygiene was poor the night before. “Sleep hygiene” refers to the atmosphere in which we sleep. An example of great sleep hygiene is a clean bedroom, with no excessive light and definitely no television or computer screens. An example of poor sleep hygiene would be a dirty bedroom with unwashed sheets and a television screen going all night.
If your bedroom is a disaster, clean it and wash your sheets. A clean bedroom shouldn’t just be something you strive for when you’re entertaining guests, but rather should be something that you strive for because you value yourself and your quality of sleep. If you’re addicted to watching television to fall asleep, try to transition to listening to relaxing music or white noise instead. The blue light of a computer or television screen is really detrimental to a good night’s sleep.
If you follow these tips, you can improve the amount of energy you have throughout the day. Remember, it’s normal to a certain extent to occasionally feel tired in the afternoons, especially if you have to be at work very early. However, if you feel excessively tired, it’s important that you make some key changes to improve your energy levels. After all, you want to be your most productive each and every day.
